Software Engineer - Store Selling Systems
We are a large retailer founded on a simple idea: offer each customer the best possible service, quality, value and selection. We are looking for an individual to join our Information Technology (IT) Store Selling Systems team as we intensify the pace of innovation and move toward future growth through technology solutions.

Our Technology division works in partnership with other areas of the Company to develop and support the business systems used throughout the company. The ideal candidate will develop and implement new technologies as well as maintain and enhance existing systems. They will create and support interfaces with internal systems, other technology teams across the company, and key external vendor applications. This individual will thrive in an intellectually challenging environment, solve problems and work with team members to create high quality solutions.
 
Responsibilities
• Write and design innovative applications to drive our business
• Have a passion for writing clean, consistent, and elegant code to create scalable and reliable systems
• Work closely with team members and business partners to solve business problems
• Perform peer code reviews and provide constructive feedback (git/Stash)
• Respond to mission-critical system problems in a rapid and high-quality fashion
• Research and prototype new solutions, while providing recommendations for existing system improvements
• Collaborate and provide mentorship with team members for continuous improvement in an Agile/Lean development environment
• Engineers can play a variety of roles, including a full stack developer and SDET
• SDETs are expected to be involved from the point of writing code to building automation frameworks that are executed with each build from test to production
• Take initiative with a bias toward action
 
Technical Qualifications
• Our systems are built with a variety of technologies; therefore applicants should have a strong grasp of at least one if not multiple of the following tech stacks -
1. Java, .NET, iOS (mobile development)
2. MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle
• Ideal candidate can move between both server and client technologies
• Sound object-oriented design skills and knowledge of application architecture patterns
• Experience developing solutions with the MVC pattern (preference for ASP.NET MVC knowledge)
• Design and creation of relational database schemas and ability to write SQL queries
• Experience with writing services as well as consuming services using REST, SOAP, XML, JSON or any combination
• Experience with test-driven development, with an emphasis on unit tests and integrated automation tests (Sonar)
• Experience with secure coding principles and solid understanding of secure system best practices
• Experience with performance tuning a plus
1. Emphasis on building metrics into the system and providing visibility on uptime and performance via real time alerting, reporting, and dashboards (ex. Splunk, SCOM)
• Experience with Chef a plus

• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis abilities
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to manage and prioritize own workload
• Demonstrated ability to be a team player as well as an independent performer
• Entrepreneurial spirit and attitude with desire to lead and mentor
• Aptitude and interest to quickly learn new technologies
