NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:

To assist in the implementation of all aspects of the building's behavior intervention support program, including, but not limited to, the delivery of researched based intervention strategies to individual students as well as small groups of students, and progress monitoring of those students.

OUR DISTRICT:

The Sultan School District is one of the larger geographical school districts in the Puget Sound area, consisting of approximately 325 square miles. Sultan School District has approximately 2,000 students enrolled K-12. Students are currently served by two elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and an alternative high school; and the Sno-Isle Skills Center, a cooperative vocational technical school.

Located northeast of Seattle (seven miles east of Monroe) or about 20 minutes from the Woodinville area, Sultan is surrounded by a beautiful environmental setting. Our backyard is the scenic Skykomish River and Cascade Mountains. Sultan School District includes the community of Sultan, Startup, and Gold Bar. Students from Index attend Sultan High School.

    • Assists students in dealing with conflict, expressing themselves in appropriate ways, and improving their behavior with an emphasis on successful reintegration
    • Collects and documents data, related reports, and child records for the purpose of ongoing behavior intervention service planning and review.
    • Guides and supports students as necessary to maintain a safe environment, with a focus on Positive Behavior Intervention and Support
    • May escort students to and from location
    • Mentors students utilizing the Check in-Check Out program (CICO), also collect and manage student data
    • Uses computers and related technologies as needed
    • Ability to interact and collaborate with staff, students and families in a professional manner
    • Administers one-to-one intensive behavior intervention to students.
    • Actively participates in behavior intervention meetings and professional development.
    • Collects data and records anecdotal student progress notes and maintains behavioral charting data.
    • Communicates and meets with teachers regularly regarding programs interventions and materials to meet student needs.
    • Supports Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) initiatives.
    • Provides assistance with de-escalating student behaviors and reintegration back into the classroom.
    • Communicates with family as a liaison between home and school regarding student behavior.
    • Collaborates with counselor to provide social and emotional learning lessons and goals.
    • May participate or contribute to building intervention team.
    • Other duties as assigned. MENTAL DEMANDS:
      • Experience frequent interruption
      • Required to deal with a wide range of student behaviors and academic abilities or with a wide range of physical or emotional disabilities
      • Required to calm distraught, angry or hostile students
      • Ability to be consistent, and respectful at all times when working with students

      • Knowledge and course verification of student de-escalation and safe methods of physical interventions during crisis (Eg Right response)

      • Ability to interact positively and confidently with students, fellow workers and general public

      • Attend meetings or trainings as required, with emphasis on behavioral interventions PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
        • May be exposed to visual display terminal.
        • Exposed to infectious diseases carried by students.
        • Exposed to student noise levels.
        • Occasional to frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and seeing.
        • Frequently expected to lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally required to lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
        • May be required to assist with personal hygiene, which may include toileting, diapering, grooming and catheterization.
        • Must be able to see details at close range.
        • May be required to be on feet for extended periods of time or sit for extended periods of time.
        • May be required to use Right Response escorts and restraints in crisis events
        • Ability to work with multiple behaviorally escalated students at one time POSITION MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
          • Ability to stoop, crouch, crawl, bend, kneel and stand for long periods of time
          • Ability to assist and lead in student de-escalation and physical intervention when needed
          • Ability and willingness to work with students who bite, kick, hit and can be verbally aggressive
          • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
          • Right Response training to be maintained for the duration of the job
          • Ability to remain flexible and positive when experiencing changes or disruptions of routines.
          • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills in communicating effectively with students, staff, and the public in a warm and confident manner.
          • Ability to proficiently operate a computer for a wide variety of tasks including the operation of specific software programs for clerical tasks and record keeping.
          • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
          • Ability to learn the operation of general office machines and book repair equipment.
          • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities of basic subject areas, such as reading, writing and math.
          • Display good organizational skills.
          • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality.
          • Ability to learn and use effective behavior management techniques.
          • Ability to learn and use effective instructional techniques.
          • Knowledge of student safety rules and procedures.
          • Ability to remain flexible to changes in assignments.
          • Ability to organize activities.
          • Ability to effectively establish constructive, cooperative and positive working relationships with students and staff and maintain them over time.
          • Ability to give and follow directions. EDUCATION, LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, FORMAL TRAINING:
            • High school graduation or equivalent and experience working with school-aged students.
            • Must have current First Aid / CPR Certification.
            • Pass Paraeducator Praxis test or have 72 quarter/48 semester credits at 100-level or above.
