We strive to maximize human welfare through education, research, and public service.Social Development Research Group (SDRG) is looking for a permanent full-time staff member (100% FTE) to conduct data analysis and writing tasks as a research scientist on a randomized trial of a long-term mentoring intervention called Friends of the Children.The Young Adult Study (YAS) is an extension of a randomized trial of the FOTC mentoring intervention which was initiated 15 years ago. The study examines the impact of a 12.5-year long, relationship-based, professional mentoring program, Friends of the Children (FOTC) within the context of an existing multi-site randomized controlled trial (RCT; FOTC versus control).Basic Function: The function of the research scientist in this position is to provide support and participate in the analysis of data, planning and facilitating team meetings and annual meeting of research partners, assist in and complete several manuscripts in conjunction with the research team.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinating, facilitating, and attending weekly research team meetings.
  • Conducting preliminary and increasingly complex quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • Conducting literature reviews.
  • Writing and revising manuscripts.
  • Assist with the development of surveys and other data collection protocols.
  • Conduct qualitative interviews.
  • Soliciting and integrating input from co-authors.
  • Working with the SDRG editor to submit finished manuscripts to journals.
  • Responding to feedback from editorial reviews.
  • Lead Responsibilities: Conducting all phases of social science research as part of research teams across multiple projects.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field/scientific discipline such as Biology, Psychology, the Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering, Oceanography, Social Work, etc.
  • One year of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education/experience in a scientific discipline.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Previous experience coordinating research projects related to prevention efforts for youth and young adults.
  • Previous experience with SPSS and Excel for data analysis and tracking.
  • Previous experience conducting qualitative research including developing interview protocols, conducting interviews, coding transcripts, and analyzing themes.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • Previous experience writing for publication in academic journals.
  • In depth knowledge of prevention science research.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • MS in social work, clinical psychology, mental health counseling or another appropriate field.
