Engineered with a reusable first stage and a seven-meter payload fairing, New Glenn is building the road to space.As part of an outstanding and highly skilled team, you'll be responsible for space launch vehicle primary and secondary structure analysis; as well as developing analysis processes. This is a hands-on position that involves all aspects of structural analysis throughout design, assembly, testing, and flight operations.We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. • Detailed hand calc and FE analysis of primary and secondary aerospace structures.
• Documentation of stress analysis to support release of engineering drawings / documents.
• Making predictions, implementing test campaigns, and creating reports in support of hardware qualifications.
• Providing technical mentorship on design concepts (risk vs. cost vs. performance).
• Maintain and report on activity schedule, budget and technical status.
• Supporting other teams and team members with inputs for configuration development and trade studies.
• Mentoring and analysis checks for designers and junior structural analysts in stress/stability/fracture analysis and standard processes.
• Improving enterprise analysis capabilities such as creating process automation tools for model creation, optimization, strength checks, and analysis report generation.
• Effectively and constructively collaborate with team members from various fields and backgrounds, adjacent teams, and the shop floor. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree (M.S. preferred) in engineering and 7+ years of experience with aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicle structures, or automotive.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with one or more of the following analysis codes, particularly with reading and manipulating input files: Nastran, Optistruct, Ansys, Abaqus.
  • High proficiency with Altair Hyperworks products or suitable alternate, e.g. Abaqus.
  • Extensive understanding of FEM modeling techniques (boundary conditions, bolted connections, contact, verification methods, etc.).
  • Experience with development and/or qualification testing (test requirements, setup/configuration, test predictions, test conduct/monitoring, etc.).
  • Knowledge of aerospace and/or launch vehicle structural requirements.
  • Familiarity with classical aerospace sizing methods (ex: Bruhn, Niu, Roark).
  • Deep composites analysis, design, manufacturing, and inspection knowledge.
  • Deep knowledge of bonded and bolted joint design, mechanics, and relevant analysis techniques.
  • Analysis of composite and metallic structures (sandwich panels, skin-stringer, fittings, etc.).
  • Familiarity with composite failure modes and standard test methods (in-plane, interlaminar, shear, fracture, etc.).
  • Analysis of stability critical structures (local buckling phenomenon, global buckling, crippling).
  • Bolted joint calculations (bolt preload, joint stiffness, shear-tension interaction, insert pull-out, etc.).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Preferred Qualifications:
    • Demonstrated experience with composite laminate and geometry optimization methods.
    • Experience analyzing composite structures using lamina failure criterion (Tsai-Wu, Tsai-Hill, etc).
    • Hands on experience with composite fabrication, assembly, and tooling methods.
    • Demonstrated experience with metallic or composite structural layout, analysis, testing, and qualification methods.
    • Demonstrated process automation experience using scripting languages (Matlab, Python, VBA, Fortran, etc.).
    • Experience developing inspection for structural flight and test readiness using specific risk characterization approaches.
    • Experience with analyzing / dispositioning non-conformances.
